Getting Around Charleston
Charleston is not a difficult city to navigate. Once you understand the main parts of town, it’s pretty easy to get your bearings and get around on foot, or on a bike taxi/pedicab!
King Street: Charleston’s main shopping hub. This outdoor stretch of boutiques is probably the most well-known part of town. As you travel further north on King it becomes more of a bar/restaurant scene (with some of the best options in town)
Market Street: 5 blocks or so from King, the historic market is where you will find local vendors selling odds and ends and has been in business since the 1790s.
The Battery: One of the most historic parts of Charleston, the Battery is a beautiful park situated at the southern-most tip of the peninsula. The Battery has a harbor-view, and is lined with replica cannons from the Civil War surrounded by gorgeous live oak trees.
East Bay Street: Another street mostly lined with restaurants (adjacent to the Market), East Bay St. gives way to the famous rainbow row houses as you take it further south towards the Battery
Charleston is most certainly know as a walking city…However, the heat of the warmer months can be burdensome. We always recommend renting bikes to ride around and explore the city, and of course a Bike Taxi if you want to support the environment, and have someone else to do the work for you!
